End of an Era: The Indiana Economic Digest
After nearly 24 years of service, the Indiana Economic Digest has come to a close. Unfortunately, funding is no longer available to continue operating and maintaining the service. The site was retired at the end of June 2026.
Since its launch on August 1, 2002, the Indiana Economic Digest served as a unique resource for tracking business and economic developments across Indiana. Created through a partnership between the Indiana Business Research Center, the Indiana Association of Realtors and the Hoosier State Press Association, the Digest brought together news from local newspapers throughout the state, providing a single source for understanding the stories shaping Indiana's economy.
From business expansions and closings to life sciences, workforce development, education, taxes, housing and community growth, the Digest helped readers discover the news behind the numbers.
A Statewide View of Indiana's Economy
What made the Indiana Economic Digest distinctive was its ability to gather local reporting from every corner of the state and organize it into a searchable, statewide resource.
Each day, the Digest compiled stories from newspapers across Indiana, creating a valuable record of economic activity and business developments. Its powerful story index allowed users to search by topic, industry and region, making it easier to identify trends, track communities and understand how local events fit into the broader economic picture.
Researchers, business leaders, policymakers, economic developers, journalists, educators and engaged citizens relied on the Digest to stay informed about Indiana's changing economic landscape.
Looking Back
While the Digest is ending, the thousands of stories it highlighted over the years stand as a testament to the importance of local journalism and the value of understanding economic change at the community level.
Between August 2002 and June 2026, the Indiana Economic Digest chronicled nearly a quarter-century of Indiana's economic history. The site captured stories of new businesses opening their doors, companies expanding operations, communities investing in their futures and industries adapting to change. Together, these stories created a living record of Indiana's economic journey.
